MICHELE 'Michael'

Michele Bazzani, born in Carrara, Italy, is a percussionist and drummer with a special talent for the music that came out of African people in the Americas.
At age 9, his first keyboard-toy enabled him to access the rudiments of music. At 11, he fell in love with James Brown's new syncopated style, which was using the conga drum in a way that inspired Bazzani to look for more of that. At age 17, after several years of experience with the conga and other afro-related drums, he first heard a jazz-fusion band by the name of “Weather Report”, and that's when his attention switched to the drum set. After meeting with a fellow saxophonist, they started a jazz workshop band, named “The First Level”, which enabled Bazzani to manage the basics of the jazz language. In the 1990's, Bazzani moved to Milan, where under the likes of Oswaldo Rodriguez Ugueto and Orlando Watussi, he started an intense nine-year experience with Salsa and rumba music. In 2001, Bazzani moved to New York with the intent of refining his skills and record his own music, while being close to the cultures that originated his passion for music. Today, Bazzani plays in the New York area with his own Salsa Band, La Maquina Amarilla, and more than five other different genre bands. At the end of 2011, he became the drummer for T.Ray's band. His own music CD, a jazzy blend of Latin, R&B and other influences, will soon be released. |
